Resonance

Digital Art

My piece is titled “Resonance.” In this piece, I recreate the feelings of calm and serenity that fill me every time I look at my country’s flag. I used natural elements (flowers and birds) alongside musical notes to achieve this effect. As one who grew up between two African countries (originally from Burkina Faso but later moved to Ghana), looking at the flag somehow helps to resolve the colossal homesickness that arbitrarily befalls me throughout my time in a foreign country. Though the flag is just a piece of fabric in the grand scheme of things, it connects me to my family, my friends, and my roots. To incorporate elements from my culture, the figure is depicted wearing traditional Burkinabé clothing (known as Faso Danfani), and the birds of the background are from a traditional Burkinabé print (known as “Liliu Pendé”).

I make art relating to identity, philosophy, political, environmental and psychological themes. I love to experiment with all mediums!
