Being a Humanist in a Time of U.S.-China Conflict is the latest installment in the Dean's Dialogue Series, which invites faculty members to speak with Yale College Dean Pericles Lewis and students about contemporary and sometimes challenging topics. One of the series' goals is to model conversation as a mode of engagement.

Jing Tsu is John M. Schiff Professor of East Asian Languages and Literatures & Comparative Literature and member of the International Security Studies at the Jackson School of Global Affairs, which houses the Brady-Johnson Grand Strategy program. She has published books on modern Chinese literature, nationalism, diaspora, science and technology, and has written for The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, and The Financial Times.  Her most recent book, Kingdom of Characters: The Language Revolution That Made China Modern, came out in 2022 and has been recently named among the "100 Notable Books of 2022" by The New York Times and among the 12 "Best Nonfiction of 2022" by The Washington Post.
