EveryBody Dances with Sarada Nori
EveryBody Dances @ Yale Schwarzman Center brings local and visiting dance artists to our Dance Studio to teach Sunday masterclasses in jazz, hip hop, salsa, modern, contemporary, precision dance and more! All community members are welcome.
This week's class will be taught by Sarada Nori. Kuchipudi dance is an Indian classical dance form that originated in the Telugu speaking regions of south India. It is an amalgamation of ritual dances, courtly dance repertoire and theatrical dance drama. Kuchipudi embodies stories from ancient Hindu scripture and incorporates storytelling techniques, rhythm and hand gestures. Students need to wear comfortable clothing and be able to dance with bare feet. The class will be open level.
Sarada Nori has been a choreographer, educator and a practitioner of Kuchipudi dance for over 20 years. She is the artistic director of Layavinyasa company, founded in 2010. The company shares Indian Art forms with the community and specializes in a south Indian classical dance and music named Kuchipudi dance and Carnatic vocal music . She has been a part of prestigious festivals such as the International Festival of Arts and Ideas, conducted workshops and demonstrations in and around New-England. She holds a Masters degree in Arts, specializing in Kuchipudi and explores creative learning methods to connect with students from diverse backgrounds. Her choreographic works merge the rich traditions and deep philosophical roots of her Indian heritage with her immigrant experience, by responding to socially relevant issues in her community.
