Transport yourself to an out-of-this-world experience for a screening of the Afrofutusim sci-fi film Space is the Place (1974) at the Spring Glen United Methodist Church. Starring avante-garde American Jazz musician Sun Ra and his Arkestra, Space is the Place explores the intersection of film and music creating a multi-faceted science fiction journey to resettle the Black community on another planet. Featuring live musical performances and social commentaries and criticisms, Pitchfork says of the John Coney-directed film, “Sun Ra was nothing if not a multimedia artist who understood the power of a spectacle…just put on your spacesuit and blast off.”
