MLK Day at the New Haven Museum
Storytelling
Experience the enduring power of storytelling and participate in an annual tradition of honoring Dr. King through stories and song. Learn about and engage with Dr. King's legacy through fables and a captivating program the whole family can enjoy. The event will feature Clifton Graves (Chicken and the Eagle, The Creation), Joy Donaldson (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Word), and Waltrina Kirkland-Mullins.
Dr. Robbie Thomas will also join us for a reading of her children’s book, Mommy, Why Am I Different?
Recollection Connections
The Artsucation™ Academy Network presents an international celebration of the past, present, and future legacies of our social justice warriors, while looking towards the future with our youth as we connect across Zoom borders and waters to unite for human rights for all during the pandemic and beyond. Choreographed and directed by Ms. Hanan Hameen, Doctoral Candidate, this event features New Haven's Neighborhood Music School's Premiere Dance Company and Keepers of the Culture Performing Arts Company, and the M'Bosse Dance Company of Senegal.
Storytelling and Recollection Connections are both part of the Yale Peabody Museum's digital festival experience for the 25th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Legacy of Social and Environmental Justice. The festival comprises a series of free, online programs with opportunities to engage in critical dialogue and enjoy storytelling, music, dance, and spoken word performances.
Yale Schwarzman Center is pleased to be a partner in The Yale Peabody Museum’s 25th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Legacy of Environmental and Social Justice, generously sponsored by Citizens™.
