Performing three sets:

  • 6:00pm-7:00pm
  • 8:00pm-9:00pm
  • 9:30pm-10:30pm

For their performance at The Well, the Wes Lewis Quartet will feature a variety of compositions assembled to reflect the emotions and thematic elements of James Baldwin’s works while taking inspiration from others who have pored over and captured the sensibility of his writings, including Mechelle Ndegeocello, Jamila Woods, and others.

Wes Lewis is a saxophonist, composer, and PhD candidate in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics at Yale. He performs with the Yale Jazz Ensemble, the collective Trance Macabre, and as a leader of his own group. Along with roots in straight-ahead and big band jazz, Wes’ compositions often take rhythmic and harmonic cues from R&B, pop, and neo soul. Wes also founded the New Haven Composers Spotlight and is currently an Artist Corps grantee.
