Voices from the Inside: A Prelude to A Thousand Strange Places
Robert Myers, author of A Thousand Strange Places: Anthony Shadid and the Middle East, will be in conversation with the play's director, Kirsten Sanderson, and journalist Rami Khouri, who was a friend of the renowned correspondent Anthony Shadid and is organizing a panel of prominent journalists who worked with Shadid in conjunction with the play. This 30-minute talk serves as a prelude to a workshop performance of the play to be held at the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale at a time to be announced.
Speakers
Playwright Robert Myers is a professor of English and director of the
Alwaleed Center for American Studies at AUB. He is the author of over 15 plavs, and, with Nada Saan, has translated seven plays from Arabic to English, including those in Sentence to Hope: A Sa'dallah Wannous Reader (Yale UP, 2019).
Director Kirsten Sanderson specializes in new works for the stage. Her work has been seen in theaters, concert halls, churches, libraries, universities and even aquariums, Off Broadway, regionally and internationally.
Panel Organizer Rami G. Khouri is Director of Global Engagement at AUB, an internationally syndicated political columnist and book author, Journalist-in Residence at AUB, and a non-resident senior fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. He was the founder and first director of the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs at AUB.
