Guest Speaker: Sisonke Msimang

This event will model TEDx talks and feature a range of students discussing the intricate topic of identity. The event will open with the guest speaker and lead into student speakers. Each talk will go on for a few minutes and all speeches will be prepared beforehand. Africa Week’s theme encompasses reconnecting with home and celebrating cultural identity, so this event aims to provoke deep thought on this topic as we commence the week.

This year, Africa Week will focus on reconnecting with home – something that we’ve all missed and would undoubtedly want to experience again. As we welcome this new shade of normalcy, it is also a time for reflection and a time to celebrate our unique identities and how we contribute to the vibrant African landscape. Africa Week this year aims to bridge connections by exploring me, myself, and different facets of African innovation. By looking inward, we are not restricting ourselves to individualism. We seek community, connections, creativity, and cultures that are truly beautiful. We welcome everyone to celebrate the Motherland with YASA!
