On May 8 a dozen Greater New Haven photographers from local high schools and state and community colleges leaned in as subjects of the camera’s gaze. As they stood with their instructors in the Presidents’ Room, a crowd of their parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, and fans pulled out cellphones and jockeyed for the best angle.  In center focus was the vision of these young artists acknowledged in a proclamation from New Haven Mayor Justin Elicker. The stunning output of their efforts—a collection of works ranging from piercing self-portraits to neon humor—will brighten the walls of the second floor Presidents’ Gallery and lower level Well Galley at Yale Schwarzman Center. The exhibition, The View from Here: Accessing Art Through Photography, is on view through November 22, 2024.

Proclamation with gold seal.

The View from Here is presented in partnership with the Yale Center for British Art and the Lens Media Lab, Institute for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage.
