Re-Presenting Ourselves: A Student Exhibition
Yale Visual Arts (YVA) asked a diverse array of artists at Yale to ponder the question: “How do you re-present yourself?” This mural showcases the collective musings and imagination of artists on campus who have completed their monumental first year at Yale. The first year for these artists, like everyone else, was a moment of configuring one’s identity—it can be described as a time where their dreams, reality, yearnings, expectations, and hopes all blended together. YVA first-year students worked hand-in-hand to accomplish a mural celebrating their authentic and whimsical selves on campus.

About Yale Visual Arts (YVA)
YVA is Yale’s undergraduate visual arts collective striving to amplify diverse artist voices and creativity at all corners of campus. They host open exhibitions, special events, artist spaces, community initiatives, and unique activities such as this first-year mural.
Unlike the predominantly individualistic nature of the existing visual arts scene, YVA seeks to cultivate a sense of community among undergraduate students. Their aim is to foster overall engagement within the visual arts at Yale College. Through a variety of community events and workshops, they strive to involve all undergraduate students in the arts.
This mural project was led by Katelyn Wang and Maddie Lykouretzos, and it features an array of artists from the Class of 2027. These two lead YVA alongside Kamini Purushothaman, Davianna Iniro, and Johan Zongo, who oversee a board. Together, they continue to organize and facilitate initiatives that promote collaboration, creativity, and inclusivity within the visual arts community at Yale.
